You're in charge of a ship?

Yeah. Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, of Star Fleet. Newest in the line. I became her Captain about four or so years ago - counting the time I've spent in Luceti.

Star Fleet? Is that only a name or...? [There's hovercraft in her world, but traveling among the star isn't something she's ever heard of.]

Nope, it's pretty literal. I go out and explore the universe, searching for new planets and scientific discoveries, and rendering aid to those who call for it.

[Give her a moment, she needs to wrap her brain around this. She's not sure if she should be impressed or skeptical.]

People can do that where you're from?

Yup. We're allies with quite a few other worlds, and Star Fleet is made up of applicants from all these worlds. We go through an Academy, and those who pass get assigned to ships that go out and complete the mission of Star Fleet, exploring the final frontier.

[To think, there are places out there where that's possible and people can choose what they want to do.]

Is that what you've done your whole life?

For any portion that counts, yeah. I had a rough patch after high school, but someone came and managed to get me back on track.

And you've never had to hunt?

Nope. I would say I might have grown something, but my Uncle was crap at farming, so I can't even say that was true.

There's land out here if you wanted to give that a try. I can't do anything about the hunting without my bow.

To grow something? I guess I could, but... I've never really thought about it. Green was never my thing, I'm better with gadgets to be honest.

I figured you didn't have it since it didn't get pointed at me when we first met. But that's fine. I can't fire a bow anyways, I'd only bring shame to my family if I tried.

They gave me mine, but not before turning it into a toy. Buttercup has been scratching up the tips of the arrows that came with it. [Almost as if on cue, a disgruntled cat can be heard scampering by in the background.]

Yeah, my phaser didn't last much longer either.

We kiddies need safe toys, don't you know?

You haven't found any real ones?

I'm a civilian, and I'm not actually all that fond of weapons. If I was military, I'm sure I'd get something, but I'm not joining up.

The only one I'd want is a bow. I'd feel safer with one.

Well, I wish you luck. Maybe you can find one in one of the shops somewhere, but I couldn't say where.

[Another swing and a miss. Neither of the pair she's talked to knew where to get those kinds of weapons.]

Getting underfoot, but alive. [Somehow. The damn cat always found a way.] He... was my sister's. He was wandering the room I woke up in.

He sounds charming. But at least you have company, right?

Yeah. [Her next words are said more quietly, more thoughtful. Johanna's words when she found out the other Victor from her district had fallen are ringing clearly in her head.] He's from home.

Well, that's something, isn't it? Just glad you didn't end up here entirely alone.

[She's not entirely alone, but he is, it sounds like and she's quiet a moment.]
